Assorted pictures of the sunken Eden peninsula
(Ezekiel 47:1-12 KJV)
Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold,
waters
issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of
the house stood toward the east, and the
waters came down from under from the
right side of the house, at the
south side of the altar. Then brought he me out
of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto
the
utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold,
there ran out waters
on the right side. And when the man that had the line in his hand
went forth
eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters;
the waters were to the ankles. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me
through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand,
and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. Afterward he measured a
thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were
risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. And he said
unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to
return to the brink of the river. Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank
of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other. Then said he
unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country,
and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought
forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. And it shall come to pass, that
every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come,
shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these
waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live
whither the river cometh. And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall
stand upon it from Engedi even unto Eneglaim; they shall be a place to spread
forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the
great sea, exceeding many. But the miry places thereof and the marishes thereof
shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt. And by the river upon the bank
thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose
leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring
forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of
the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for
medicine.
Breakdown of the Ezekiel 47
(Ezekiel 47:1-12 KJV)
Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the
house; (Describing temple or house of God)
and, behold, waters issued
out from under the threshold of the house eastward:
(A spring gushing water was within the courtyard of the
house) for the forefront of the
house stood toward the east, and the
waters came down from under from the
right side of the house, at the
south side of the altar.
(The location of the spring was emanating from the altar within the temple [Gods
house])
Then brought he me out of the way of the
gate northward,
(Ezekiel is led to the
north to a gate) and led me about the way without unto
the utter gate by the way that
looketh eastward; At
the North gate he is led through some compound to a outer gate) There must
of been two gates inner gate and outer gate with a compound between them.)
and, behold, there ran out waters on the right
side. (At the outer gate looking in a
easterly direction we see the great river, flowing out on the right side of the
gate is flowing in a easterly direction. Ezekiel must of been on the
Northern side of the river at the outer gate looking to the right)
And when the man that had the line in his hand went
forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the
waters; the waters were to the ankles. Again he measured a thousand, and brought
me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a

measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the

could not be passed over. And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou
seen this? Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the
river. Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many
trees on the one side and on the other. Then said he unto me,
These waters issue out toward the east country, and go
down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth
into the sea, (At this point outside the gate we see
that Ezekiel is told that the river flows in a easterly direction over the
desert and then into the sea also the river is in flood and are having
difficulty crossing the river.)
the waters shall be healed. And it shall come to
pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall
come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because
these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall
live whither the river cometh. And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall
stand upon it from Engedi even unto Eneglaim;
(Describing the boundaries of the Persian Gulf) they shall be a place to spread
forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the
great sea, exceeding many. (Describing future
civilization, around the mouths of the rivers in The Persian Gulf) But the miry places thereof and the
marishes thereof
shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt.
(Again describing the marshes around the mouths of two rivers emptying in the
Persian Gulf which would of been given to salt over time as the rainfall
declined over the years) And by the river upon the bank
thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose
leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring
forth new fruit according to his months, (We see a
great blessings for the rivers) because their
waters they issued out of the sanctuary: (We
could be talking about the 2nd Garden of Eden to the North between the rivers at
it most narrow point where Adam and Eve resettled from there expulsion or waters
from the first garden?) and
the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine. (Very
fertile area rich in food with a vast variety of plant species for medicine)
Note: there could be a type for the last days?
Comment: At this point we have broken down the relevant parts of this ection of Ezekiel 47. Now lets see how the Urantia Book relates to this discovery.
The following are The relevant Urantia Book Extracts
PAPER 73 - THE GARDEN OF EDEN, Oct 19 2000
line 73: The first task was the building of the brick wall
across the neck of the peninsula. This once completed, the real work of
landscape beautification and home building could proceed unhindered.
line 74: A zoological garden was created by building a smaller wall
just outside the main wall; the intervening space, occupied by all manner of
wild beasts, served as an additional defense against hostile attacks.
This menagerie was organized in
twelve grand divisions, and
walled paths led
between these groups to the twelve gates
of the Garden, the river and
its adjacent pastures occupying the central area.
PAPER 73 - THE GARDEN OF EDEN,
Oct 19 2000
line 62: The coast line of this land mass was considerably elevated, and the neck connecting with the mainland was only twenty-seven miles wide at the narrowest point. The great river that watered the Garden came down from the higher lands of the peninsula and flowed east through the peninsular neck to the mainland and thence across the lowlands of Mesopotamia to the sea beyond. It was fed by four tributaries which took origin in the coastal hills of the Edenic peninsula, and these are the "four heads" of the river which "went out of Eden," and which later became confused with the branches of the rivers surrounding the second
The UB says that Adam had to wait six weeks to cross the river.
PAPER 76 - THE SECOND GARDEN, Oct 19 2000
line 32: It required almost a full year for the caravan of Adam to reach the Euphrates River. Finding it in flood tide, they remained camped on the plains west of the stream almost six weeks before they made their way across to the land between the rivers which was to become the second garden.
I believe the Urantia Book references in the above parallels with Ezekiel about the difficulty of crossing the river during flood season. The waters the Ezekiel speaks about, originates from springs under the mountain of God (Temple). The great river ran in a easterly direction due west out of the garden, across the desert and then into the sea. Note: That when Ezekiel was standing outside the outer gate he noticed the great river was flowing to the right, which corresponds to bathymetric mapping of the area where the great river ran through the middle of the peninsula and does begin to veer to the right. Ezekiel is then explaining the difficulty in crossing the river (The Euphrates) which was in floodtide which corresponds to the following Urantia Book excerpts. God is seen giving his blessings to the waters as the waters come from a holy source and flows into the region of the second garden by The Euphrates and then to the sea of the Persian Gulf. In the same breathe Ezekiel expresses that a marsh area would be given up to salt, would that mean an area between the Great river flowing out of first Eden in a desert area and the Euphrates river connection? Is that area in the desert somewhere between 1st Eden and 2nd Eden? in Northern west Syria, east of the Euphrates?
Pictures of present day fault
lines and options of possible courses of The Great River going out of the east

Description of Adam, the 1st Garden of Eden and the general area.
(Ezekiel 31:3-9 KJV)
Behold, the Assyrian
was
a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a
shadowing
shroud, and of an high stature; and
his top was among the
thick boughs. The
waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round
about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the
field. Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and
his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the
multitude of waters, when he shot forth. All the fowls of heaven made their
nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field
bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations. Thus was
he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his
root was by
great waters. The cedars in the garden of
God could not hide him: the fir
trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his
branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his
beauty. I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that
all
the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God,
envied him.
The Breakdown
(Ezekiel 31:3-9 KJV)
Behold, the Assyrian
(Possibly describing Adam in the Garden)
was
a cedar in Lebanon
(He was distinct) with fair branches, and with a
shadowing
shroud, and of an high stature;
(He had influence) and
his top
(His Home was a hight top like a table top moutain)
was among the
thick boughs. (It
was in the midst of the Garden)
The
waters made him great, the deep
(The Sea) set him up on high
(His Island peninsula home high above the sea with water
around him)
with her rivers running round
about his plants, and sent out her little rivers unto all the trees of the
field. (We see a description of irrigation watering
trees in the fields)
Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field,
(He was set high above the
his garden)
and
his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the
multitude of waters, when he shot forth. (There was
much water that was used for irrigation his garden multiplied) All the fowls of heaven made their
nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field
bring forth their young, (There were many animals in
the garden) and under his shadow dwelt all great nations. Thus was
he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his
root was by
great waters. (Adam was respected among the
nations and the nations lived under his influence) The cedars in the garden of
God (Clearly
associated with the Garden of God) could not hide him: the fir
trees were not like his boughs, and the chesnut trees were not like his
branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his
beauty. (Adam was unique there was nothing as beautiful
as him) I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that
all
the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God,
envied him.
Comment: Ezekiel provides a view of 1st Eden with a description of Adam and his influence over the nations including the extensive irrigation networks that was prepared within the garden. Adam is described as The Assyrian, Adam or The Assyrian was described as a unique leader where his influence covered the land like a shroud and the nations respected him and saw him as a high leader. He was of high stature, just and exalted over his land and spheres of influence. We also see descriptions of the extensive irrigation networks that were prepared in the 1st Garden of Eden, where all the birds and animals of many species lived not to mention the abundance of unique trees and fruits. It is mentioned that where the 1st Garden of Eden was set high above the deep(water), obviously the location was high in elevation with water surrounding it. We can assume it was an island of some kind connected to the mainland considering the great river flowed from west to east out of the garden so it must of been connected as seen in the following picture. Ezekiel also gives you a general idea of the area by calling Adam, The Assyrian. This is interesting as the location of the first garden is directly west of the shores of Syria, one mile under the water with Lebanon a short distance to the south. Ezekiel through the use of the words The Assyrian and Lebanon is practically telling you the general location of 1st Eden.
The Default of Adam occurs
(Ezekiel 31:10-14 KJV)
10 Therefore thus
saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself
in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;
11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand
of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him:
I have driven him out for his wickedness.
12 And strangers, the terrible of the nations,
have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains
and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all
the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his
shadow, and have left him. 13 Upon his
ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field
shall be upon his branches: 14 To the end that
none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither
shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their
height, all that drink water: for they are all
delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the
children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
The Breakdown
(Ezekiel 31:10-14 KJV)
10 Therefore thus
saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself
in height, (Sounds like pride) and he hath shot up his top
(His mountain top where the house of God is)
among the thick boughs,
and his heart is lifted up in his height;
11 I have therefore delivered him
(Adam) into the hand
of the mighty one of the heathen; (The fallen angel)
he shall surely deal with him:
I have driven him out for his wickedness.
12 And strangers, the terrible of the nations,
have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains
and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all
the rivers of the land; and all the people of the earth are gone down from his
shadow, and have left him. 13 Upon his
ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, (Birds
fly from the destruction) and all the beasts of the field
shall be upon his branches: (Sounds like a catastrophic
flood where the animals are dead in the braches of trees as you would expect) 14 To the end that
none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither
shoot up their top among the thick boughs, neither their trees stand up in their
height, all that drink water: (The Edenic Island is set
in a freshwater lake) for they are all
delivered unto death, (Floods) to the nether parts of the earth,
(Sunk to the bottom of the ocean) in the midst of the
children of men, with them that go down to the pit.
(everything is destroyed including human life. The Island
peninsula, Garden of Eden is sunk and destroyed by floods)

Comment: We see the ramifications of the default. Adam is expelled out of the garden because of his error. Adams position as a planetary leader is diminished and due to his expulsion from the garden we see that his influence amongst the nations is lost, he has lost credibility. After the default we see the Garden falling in disarray which eventually is destroyed by water and earthquakes.
Post Default and the post event sinking of the
peninsula.
(Ezekiel 31:15-17 KJV)
15 Thus saith the
Lord GOD; In the day when
he went down to the grave I caused a
mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained
the floods thereof, and the great waters
were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees
of the field fainted for him. 16 I
made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him
down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and
all the trees of Eden, the choice and best
of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be
comforted in the nether parts of the earth.
17 They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with
the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst
of the heathen.
The Breakdown
(Ezekiel 31:15-17 KJV)
15 Thus saith the
Lord GOD; In the day when
he went down to the grave
(The 1st Garden of Eden sunk) I caused a
mourning: (there was great mourning amongst the
survivors) I covered the deep for him, (The
sea covered his garden) and I restrained
the floods thereof, and the great waters
were stayed: (The waters settled down)
and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him,
and all the trees
of the field fainted for him. (The locality of Lebanon
is mentioned, the locals of Lebanon are mourning because they know the
significance of this loss as the first garden is to the west of Lebanon and
Syria. In addition a major loss of life would of been witnessed on
the Lebanese coast)16 I
made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall,
(earthquake simultaneous with the flooding major
catastrophe) when I cast him
down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and
all the trees of Eden, the choice and best
of Lebanon, all that drink water, shall be
comforted in the nether parts of the earth.
(The remnants of 1st Eden is at the deep, bottom of the ocean.
However, the memory of this place but will comforted as it will be resurrected in the future, in part for the "Healing of the Nations" and to introduce the Sevenfold doctrine/information) for the future enhancement of the destiny of mankind.
Remembering the 2000+ year old Enoch prophecy.
1 Enoch 104:10 Another mystery also I point out. To the righteous and the wise shall be given books of joy, of integrity, and of great wisdom. To them shall books be given, in which they shall believe;
1 Enoch l04:ll And in which they shall rejoice. And all the righteous shall be rewarded, who from these shall acquire the knowledge of every upright path.1 Enoch 92:l2 Afterwards, in the seventh week a perverse generation shall arise; abundant shall be its deeds, and all its deeds perverse. During its completion, the righteous shall be selected from the plant of everlasting righteousness; and to them shall be given the Sevenfold Doctrine respecting every part of his whole creation.
1 Enoch 92:17 The former heaven shall depart and pass away; a new heaven shall appear; and all the celestial powers shine with sevenfold splendor for ever. Afterwards likewise shall there be many weeks, which shall externally exist in goodness and in righteousness.
1Enoch 1:8 Then shall all belong to God; be happy and blessed; and the splendor of the Godhead shall illuminate them.
More about the Last days according to Enoch interpreted by Edmund Roach in his book
17 They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain with
the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst
of the heathen.
Comment: In this segment in Ezekiel we see that the location went
down to the watery grave, the sea. There was morning in Lebanon which is
next to the location thus giving us a clue to the general area. We can see
that the Garden of God was destroyed by floods and by the great waters, (a major
flood catastrophe which wiped out the whole Eden peninsula). The
lands/nations in the surrounding area suffered from Earthquakes particularly the
coast of the eastern Mediterranean. In addition there was great mourning
in these lands as they knew the importance of this location. Interesting
to note that Lebanon and Syria (The Assyrian) is associated with the garden, we
are not speaking about Mesopotamia nor about The Sumerians we analyzing the 1st
location of Eden, not the second location between the Tigris and Euphrates,
clearly we can see references to Eden through Ezekiel in the general area of
Syria and Lebanon.

Additional Scriptures including the first Garden of Eden.
(Ezekiel 28:13-16 KJV)
13 Thou hast been in
Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the
sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the
sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy
tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in
thee in the day that thou
wast created.14 Thou
art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou
wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast
walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day
that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have
filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will
cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God:
and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of
fire.
The Breakdown
(Ezekiel 28:13-16 KJV)
13 Thou hast been in
Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the
sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the
sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold:
(The Garden of Eden was rich in precious stones and metals it must be close an
old volcano that yielded many elements. The volcano is Mt Olympus, Cyprus)
the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. (Implies that Garden of God with all its foundations, irrigation ditches and pathways was prepared before Adam was created or arrived)
14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; (Now we are talking about a cherub would that be the tempter, sounds like it) and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. (The tempter also walked in the garden near the mountain of God also implies a volcano, [stones of fire] Mt Olympus is close by) 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. (referring to the tempter) 16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God:
and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the
midst of the stones of fire. (God is angry with the
tempter and will be expelled from the mountain of God, the first location where
it all happened)
Comment: In the following scripture we see another reflection of the Garden
and a judgment that I think was expressed to the Fallen angel (the heathen one)
for inspiring the default of Adam and Eve in the first garden. Again the
garden in this scripture is described as being a place having many minerals and
precious stones which was prepared before Adam was created or arrived. In
the following is an excerpt from The Urantia Book regarding the precious stones
of Eden.
PAPER 73 - THE GARDEN OF EDEN, Oct 19 2000
line 63: The mountains surrounding the Garden abounded in precious stones and metals, though these received very little attention. The dominant idea was to be the glorification of horticulture and the exaltation of agriculture.
A tidbit This is with what John said about the New Jerusalem:
(Revelation 22:1-2 KJV
And he shewed me a pure
river of
water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding out of the
throne of God and of the
Lamb. In the
midst of the street of it,
and on either side of the river, was there the tree
of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and
yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the
healing of the nations.
Here is something out of The Book of Jubilees
"And for Ham came out as
the second portion, beyond the Gejon (Nile), toward the south,
to the right of the garden,
and it proceeds to all the fire mountains (Africa), and
goes toward the west
to the sea of Atil [the first
sea, between the Sicilian land bridge and the eastern Mediterranean],
and goes west
until it reaches the sea of Mauk (The second
sea, between Gibraltar and the Sicilian land bridge) the one
of which everything descends that is destroyed
(important, speaks about the destruction of first
Eden)." (The rock of
Gibraltar broke and concomitant to that the Sicilian land bridge sinking
therefore destroyed the 1st garden of Eden in a single day due to the Tsunami
effect combined with floods and earthquakes.) kinda sounds
familiar.
Here is another reference to the 1st Garden of Eden from the Book of Jubilees.
23 testified against (them) all. And he was taken from amongst the children of men, and we conducted him into the Garden of Eden in majesty and honour, and behold there he writes down the condemnation.24 and judgment of the world, and all the wickedness of the children of men. And on account of it (God) brought the waters of the flood upon all the land of Eden; for there he was set as a sign and that he should testify against all the children of men, that he should recount all the 25 deeds of the generations until the day of condemnation. And he burnt the incense of the sanctuary, the seal
26 (even) sweet spices acceptable before the
Lord on the Mount.
For the Lord has four places
on the earth, the Garden of
Eden, and the
Mount of the East,
and this mountain on which thou art this day,
Mount Sinai,
and Mount Zion
(which) will be sanctified in the new creation for a sanctification of the
earth; through it will the earth be sanctified from all (its) guilt and its
uncleanness through.
The Mount
Extract of Babylonian text
Here are some Babylonian texts that portray Gilgamesh 2700 years B.C. It interesting that this story is set in Lebanon next to the 1st Garden of Eden which speak about the Cedars in Lebanon, the place where a great default happens within the realms of the Gods which eventually provides the downfall of some sort reminiscent of The Adam and Eve account. Are these writing related? To me these stories are related to the 1st Garden of Eden and parallel both The Urantia Book account the Ezekiel account.
This is a verse text of the Gilgamesh epic by Robert Temple (1991). Tablet V tells of when Enkidu and Gilgamesh enter the great forest and encounter Humbaba.
For more information go here http://www.mythinglinks.org/NearEast~TigrisEuphrates.html
They stood quite still and looked at the forest,
Saw how high were the great cedars,
And gazed upon the entrance to the forest.
There, where Humbaba was wont to tread,
Was a fine path; straight it was and easy to travel.
They saw also the Cedar Mountain, where lived the gods
And Irnini, Goddess of Love, holy Inanna had her throne seat
The cedar raised aloft its great luxuriant growth:
What cool shade, what delight! .....
The two enter the forest and later bed down for the night. Gilgamesh has a series of nightmares; each time he shares a dream with Enkidu, the later perverts the dream's meaning:
'A second dream I saw:
We were standing in mountain gorges
And a mountain fell upon us.
It was so large that by comparison
We were like small reed flies -
Like the little fly of the cane-brakes we were.'
He who was born on the steppe...
Enkidu said to his friend:
'My friend, the dream is auspicious,
It is a precious dream....
My friend, that mountain which you saw
That mountain is Humbaba.
We shall seize Humbaba, we shall kill him,
And cast his dead body on the plain....
They cut down a cedar, which attracts Humbaba's attention to them:
...Gilgamesh gripped the axe
And with it felled the cedar.
Humbaba, hearing the sound of this,
Fell into a fury and raged:
'Who is it who has come -
Come and intefered with my trees?
My trees which have grown on my own mountains?
And has also felled the cedar?'....
They overpower Humbaba with the treacherous help of Shamash, the sun-god, who drives fierce winds from all directions at Humbaba; the old mountain forest god pleads for his life and Gilgamesh seems willing to listen, but Enkidu advises against it.
...Enkidu said to his friend, said to Gilgamesh:
'My friend, Humbaba the guardian of the Cedar Forest......
Strike him to maim him.
Kill him! Crush him! And quickly,
Humbaba, the guardian of the forest -
Strike him to maim him.
Kill him! Crush him! And quickly.
Before God Enlil, the Foremost hears his cries.
The gods will be filled with wrath against us for our deed....
After several postponements, the Old one is slain:
...Gilgamesh heeded the words of his friend.
With his hand he took the axe,
Drew the sword from his belt.
Gilgamesh struck the neck of Humbaba,
Enkidu, his friend, struck Humbaba twice also.
At the third blow Humbaba fell.
Confusion..... dumbfounded,
He struck the watchman, Humbaba, to the ground.
For two leagues the cedars resounded.
Enkidu killed with him
Forest.... cedars
At whose word Mount Hermon -Saria
And all the Lebanon trembled.
All the mountains became.......
All the hills became.......
He slew the ......cedars,
Those destroyed....
The chilling death of Humbaba is only one element in this epic. I, as you might have guessed, am on the side of the Old Forest God. I am also on the side of the serpent who, in a later section of the epic, steals the herb of immortality from Gilgamesh.
